In short

Inferno Construction installs flooring and tile across St. George and Southern Utah, including porcelain and ceramic tile, natural stone, luxury vinyl plank, and hardwood, plus custom tile showers and backsplashes. We prep and level the subfloor first, because that is what decides whether a floor stays flat and grout lines stay closed.

Why Inferno

A floor fails from underneath, not from the top

Almost every flooring complaint traces back to something under the surface. Tile that cracks along one line was laid over a subfloor that flexes. Grout that keeps opening up means the substrate is moving. Vinyl planks that separate at the seams were installed over a slab that was never flattened. The tile itself is rarely the problem, so replacing it without fixing what is beneath just buys you a couple of years.

We spend real time on prep. Checking slab flatness and grinding or self-leveling where it is out, adding backer or membrane where a floor needs isolation, and confirming deflection before a single tile goes down. It is the least visible part of the job and the reason our floors stay closed up.

Southern Utah adds its own pressure. Big temperature swings mean materials expand and contract, so movement joints and expansion gaps at the perimeter actually matter here. Hard water attacks unsealed grout and natural stone. We pick materials and sealers that hold up locally and we set expansion where the floor needs room to move.

What's included

Every surface, prepped and set right

Flooring is half preparation and half installation. We do both, so nobody hands you a warranty argument between the installer and whoever poured the slab.

Porcelain & ceramic tile

Floors, walls, and large-format panels set flat with leveling systems so there are no lippage edges to catch a toe.

Luxury vinyl plank

Waterproof LVP that handles pets, sun, and spills, floated or glued depending on the subfloor.

Natural stone & travertine

Stone set and sealed properly, which matters more here than almost anywhere given our water.

Hardwood & engineered

Nail-down and floating installs, with engineered recommended over slab and in wide temperature swings.

Tile showers & wet areas

Waterproofed pans, walls, niches, and benches, sloped to drain and built to stay dry behind the tile.

Backsplashes & feature walls

Kitchen backsplashes, fireplace surrounds, and accent walls, laid out so cuts land where they are not noticed.

Subfloor prep & leveling

Grinding, patching, self-leveling, backer board, and crack isolation membrane before anything is set.

Grout, sealing & transitions

The right grout for the joint, sealed where it needs it, with clean transitions between rooms and materials.

They were fast and efficient and delightful to work with. I have never had such a good experience with a contractor. Never. He was here when promised and finished before he promised.

Questions

Flooring and tile FAQs

What flooring holds up best in Southern Utah?

Porcelain tile and quality luxury vinyl plank handle our conditions best. Both shrug off heat and spills, and neither fades the way some laminates do in strong sun. If you want real wood over a slab or in a room with big temperature swings, engineered hardwood is the safer choice over solid.

Can you tile over my existing floor?

Sometimes, but it is usually the wrong call. Tiling over old flooring raises the height at every doorway and inherits whatever is wrong underneath. We check what is there and tell you honestly whether it can stay, but we will not set new tile over a substrate that is going to move.

How long before I can walk on a new tile floor?

Usually a day before light foot traffic and a bit longer before furniture and full use, because thinset and grout need to cure rather than just dry. Rushing that is how you get hollow spots and cracked joints. We build the cure time into the schedule so you know when the room is really yours again.

Does grout need to be sealed?

Cement grout does, and here it matters more than most places, because hard water leaves mineral deposits that stain unsealed joints permanently. Some epoxy and high-performance grouts do not need sealing. We tell you which one your job is getting and what upkeep it needs.

Do you handle the demo and haul-off?

Yes. Tear-out, disposal, and the dust control that goes with it are part of the job. Old tile and mortar removal is messy work, so we barrier off the area and keep the rest of the house livable while it happens.
